SUMMARY:Call for Papers: Annual International Congress on Medieval Studies (Kalamazoo\, Michigan; United States)
DESCRIPTION:This panel explores Italian medieval sources that reveal the interactions between water (in all its shapes and forms) and a variety of different actors\, whether humans or non-humans\, living or inanimate. Prioritizing a world suffused and shaped by water\, it examines how Italy’s intimate connection to its surrounding sea played a special role in the Mediterranean as it was traversed\, described\, and disputed. Drawing on the burgeoning field of the blue humanities\, it simultaneously looks at how waters both still and flowing conditioned human and non-human interactions\, and found expression in the art\, culture\, and politics of the time.
